An outbreak of shigellosis was recently reported in Denmark associated with the consumption of imported baby corn from Thailand. We report a similar outbreak of shigellosis in Queensland, Australia that is possibly linked to the Danish outbreak through a common source in Thailand.

In June 2007, the European Network for Diagnostics of Imported Viral Diseases started an external quality assurance analysis of both serological and molecular methods used for Chikungunya virus detection. Here we give preliminary results regarding the laboratory capacity and diagnostic quality for detection of CHIKV infections in Europe.

On 11 July 2007, the French Minister of Health launched the National Tuberculosis Control Program and a new policy on Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination.

Upon request of the authors, corrections were made in the article "Seroprevalence of antibodies to poliovirus in individuals living in Portugal, 2002", published in the June 2007 issue of Eurosurveillance monthly.
