Increase in genital chlamydia infections in Sweden

In 2001, 22 266 cases of genital Chlamydia trachomatis infection were notified to Smittskyddsinstitutet (the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control), giving an overall incidence of 250 cases per 100 000 population. This figure represents an increase of 15% compared with the previous year.
