Abstract
Atovaquone is a highly active antiplasmodial drug based on the natural product lapachol (1) (from Surinam greenheart wood). Atovaquone and lapachol are 2-hydroxynaphthoquinones mimicking ubiquinone in the mitochondrial cytochrome B-C1 complex.
